T minus 7 days and counting...
It's rather amusing these days to come home from work and see what new campaign mailer awaits. Saturday's mailing caused quite an uproar and on a Sunday too- such a terrible shame to have everyone up in arms on a day that's supposed to be peaceful.
I have to admit that my initial response to that particular mailing was merely, "Oh, that's interesting." I did think that "Citizens for Prosperity" sounded a little Republican leaning, but I didn't know much about it. Of course later on I saw all the ruckus on the Hellhole and was floored.
People are really going to extremes with their stances against candidates on the blogs without question.
I agree with Kheris' take on the candidates: (from a comment on MHH blog)
"I think that all 3 of the challengers are in touch with the core values of the community although they differ on the issues they spotlight and the solutions they propose. The question before the voters is which candidate best expresses their concerns and describes solutions they can support."
I have a hard time seeing any of them at a Bush-Cheney fundraiser, yet almost every candidate has been called Red Republican by someone. Truly hilarious. Rogers Park politics is way better than TV any day of the week.
Recently, I criticized Rogers Park Rake (Tom Westgard) for playing dirty on his blog with his critique of Don Gordon. After some feedback from commenters and some time passing, I have re-thought my position somewhat. While I disagree with his assertions and interpretation, his critique of Don's track record is fair to address. I still think a significant bit of the post comes across as innuendo though. And what's with all the skull and bones? There's no skull and bones in Rogers Park.
I tend to be loyal and when I decide to support someone, I don't like to see them maligned. This probably caused a bit of an overreaction on my part. I've gotten myself into trouble before defending candidates online. Fair critique and debate is acceptable, with a focus on the issues and not on gossip.
Which brings me to today's mailing. An unflattering portrait of the incumbent paid for by Friends of Chris Adams. I wonder who these friends are? The allegedly "Republican Red" Chamber of Commerce maybe? (kidding)
What's funny about this mailing also is that Joe Moore just sent out notice of the endorsement from the Sun Times via email today, but the quotes used in this mailer against Joe were taken from the very same paper. I guess the editorial staff does not entirely agree. I guess Adams is coming out swinging in the end. I loved the look her gave the Alderman in the Channel 11 forum last night when Joe denied any consequences for Dan Sullivan because of his Gordon endorsement.
And why didn't Carol Marin put Joe on the spot and ask him to answer the question about the missing CD?

Could someone point me to the details on the Dan Sullivan thing i.e. fact on Moore going after him, please explain it sounds dirty and kinda fun.

Hi Jocelyn,
Adams probably isn't a Republican the way George Bush is a Republican, but he's definitely getting lots of big donations from out-of-ward conservatives. Make of it what you will.

I haven't gotten mailings from anyone except Moore, who's sent me more than I can keep track of. There's a pile building up by the mailboxes in my building where people have tossed them on the ground. Thank God this thing is over in a few days or all that junk would end up a fire hazard.
jocelyn, on kheris's blog you wrote that the Mooron has been by the Morse el greeting people loudly.
Next time you stroll past Joe, ask him how his buddy Ivan (Buljubasic) the Arsonist is doing. Make sure you yell.
Jocelyn, what was it you said about Ginderske supporters just tearing poor old clean and innocent Don down? Read the above comment from Gordon supporter North Coast Laura.
Kindness. Positivity. (rrrright.)
Oh, the hippie days are over TW, give it a break.
Aaaaaaaah, looks like Tommie is a closet Joe Moore supporter.
At least it sounds like you are, Tom.
Why on Earth would anyone critisize me for pounding the drums about Joe Moore's friendship with a convicted arsonist? This is not gossip, this is fact. Moore has accepted donations from Buljubasic all the way through January of this year.
You have never hesitated to rip Gordon for what you believe he failed to do as a community volunteer. Why should we not rip Moore for the record that he brags about?
